The Seychelles’ involvement in the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS) Project
for Anglophone African Countries
GDDS is:
The General Data Dissemination System (GDDS) was established by the IMF with support
from the Development Data Group of the World Bank in 1997. The main objective has
been to provide a framework for developing the capacity of national statistical
systems in member countries. Metadata describing the current statistical compilation
and dissemination practices and plans for short- and medium term improvements are
available on the IMF’s Dissemination Standards
Bulletin Board (DSBB) at
http://dsbb.imf.org/Applications/web/gdds/gddscountrycategorylist/?strcode=SYC#SUM
Within this framework, a GDDS project for capacity building in statistics in Anglophone
Africa, financed by DFID, has been established that is providing technical assistance
to 21 Anglophone African countries in order to put the GDDS guidelines into practice.
As part of the current Phase II of this project, the World Bank offers technical
assistance on the socio-demographic component of the system, therewith covering
Population, Health, Agriculture, Justice & Security, Management, Labor, and
GIS.
The IMF provides technical assistance on financial and economic statistics, also
covering seven areas: Money and banking, Balance of payments, Government finance,
National accounts, GDDS/PRSP, SDDS, and SACU.
